ABOUT US

Kent Racing a family-owned racing program focused on competing in major doublehanded offshore sailing events as a mixed-gender or all-female team.  We are family owned and operated; Whitney, Gator and Tim Kent run the team.  Our goal is to sail together when we can and share stories of racing the oceans of world.  Our team is much bigger than the three of us – our team encompasses a wide variety professionals and volunteers who help to prepare, deliver, and race our boat.  It will also include all of you. We cannot wait to share the stories, images and videos that we will be making as we (endlessly) work on the boat, deliver her and compete with her.

Not long after we conceived of The Kent Racing Project and incorporated the goal of bringing other young women along with us, a review of women in sailing was published by the World Sailing Trust – Women in Sailing Strategic Review, funded by our friend Andrew Pindar.  One of their recommendations states “Many female sailors find it difficult to identify and access opportunities to sail in races and regattas, from local to national and international events. Increasing participation and creating places for women to compete will increase participation, and could take many forms – mandating or incentivizing mixed teams, adding extra boats, providing resource support, or creating women’s races and events alongside those for men.”  The emphasis is ours, as this is what we intend to do.

We are very fortunate to have grown up sailing with other women and girls – because of this, we never felt the kind of gender discrimination that other young women experienced…until we were older and competing with men for limited acceptance at the higher levels of the sport.  We will continue to focus, organize effectively, sail well and let our results speak for themselves.

The Kent Racing Project is has been granted 501(c)(3) status as a charitable organization.  Donations to Kent Racing may be tax deductible – speak to your tax accountant about individual contributions.
